Award-winning Cape Town content creator and actor Sohail Rowan Booise is taking a step back from social media to focus on his mental health.
The popular TikTok recently opened up to fans about going through a difficult period, saying, “I went through a little bit of a dip.”
Known for his hilarious skits, relatable family content and everyday South African humour, Booise has built a loyal online community through videos that many followers say feel both funny and authentic.
His content regularly trends for its local flavour and light-hearted storytelling, helping him grow a massive audience of more than 400 000 followers on TikTok.
While many fans noticed that he had become quieter online, Booise reassured supporters that he is focusing on himself for now.
“But I have been focusing on myself, going to the gym and looking after myself. I will be back. It might not be soon, or it might be soon, but it was good to be on social media without creating content all the time,” he shared.
Mental health experts and researchers have increasingly highlighted the pressure content creators face from constantly being online, producing content and staying visible on fast-moving platforms like TikTok.
Studies have shown that social media algorithms and the demand for engagement can place emotional strain on creators over time.
By taking time away, Booise is choosing rest, routine and self-care over pressure, something many people online praised him for.
“I will be back to make you guys laugh again, but for now, I would just like to focus on myself,” he added.
The creator also thanked his loyal supporters after many reached out with messages of concern, encouragement and love during his break.
