Tyla may be a global superstar, but one thing she will do is find her way back home for a well-deserved break.
While taking a break from preparing for the release of her upcoming sophomore album “A*Pop”, the “Chanel” hitmaker recently touched down in South Africa for a cosy cabin getaway with friends and it looked like the perfect reset.
The singer has been giving fans little glimpses into the trip through TikToks and Instagram posts, showing everything from nature views and sunsets to late-night amapiano sessions inside the cabin.
Tyla has not been riding solo; her model and creative director friend Halimotu Shokunbi, also known as Momo from the Block, was right by Tyla’s side and excited to be on Mzansi soil.
According to Tyla, this was Shokunbi’s first time in South Africa, which meant there was only one thing to do and that’s make her try everything.
Their first stop on the itinerary? Food and drinks. In one of the videos shared by Tyla on TikTok, the pair were spotted at a restaurant where Tyla proudly introduced Shokunbi to one of South Africa’s most loved beverages, Savanna.
Let’s just say she was not exactly impressed.
Watch the video below.
One thing Shokunbi seemed to fully enjoy during the trip was South Africa’s fast food spots.
In one clip, she was seen trying Nando’s peri peri chicken while Tyla excitedly suggested different things she should order in the background.
She appeared impressed by the meal, even saying the South African Nando’s tasted better than the one in London.
The food adventures didn’t stop there though.
The pair also tried Pedro’s peri peri chicken together, which surprisingly was Tyla’s first time tasting it too.
While comparing the two restaurants, they jokingly referred to Pedro’s as “Nando’s lite” because of how similar the flavours were.
There were also shared videos on TikTok showing Tyla stepping into her chef era while preparing meat for the group.
Somewhere in between the cooking, dancing and nature content, music is never too far away when Tyla is around.
There was also what looked like a mini studio jam session setup inside the cabin.
In the most recent clip shared by Tyla on TikTok, friends could be seen dancing to amapiano while music played in the background and honestly, it would not be surprising if Tyla ends up recording something while casually away in the mountains.
The trip comes while the Grammy winner is in full album mode and also preparing for two performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening celebrations.
Tyla is set to perform in Mexico City on June 11, ahead of the opening match between South Africa and Mexico at Estadio Azteca alongside Los Ángeles Azules and Maná.
She will then perform again in Los Angeles on June 12, alongside Katy Perry and Rema.
