Murder-accused Aletta Rose, 63, has made alarming claims regarding her treatment by fellow inmates at Pollsmoor prison, describing her time in the notorious facility as a living "hell".
Rose appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where she is accused of murdering her sister, Constance Scholtz, 79.
She allegedly beheaded and dismembered her sibling inside their Bellville South home on March 19.
Rose was previously convicted of murdering her brother-in-law (her husband’s brother) in 1997 when she stabbed him in the chest during an argument with her husband.
In court on Thursday, she made it clear that she is unhappy with how she is being treated by people in Pollsmoor prison.
When the magistrate asked if Rose wanted to make use of the service of the Afrikaans legal-aid lawyer, she said she was not satisfied.
Rose said: “I am unhappy with the court’s performance since the beginning. I said that I would no longer attend court, that was placed on record. I wrote a letter stating that I am not coming to court with the date which is still valid for the entire court proceedings but apparently that woman doesn't understand me, so until someone understands what I am talking about until then I am refusing everything.”
The matter was postponed to June 25, as she needs to undergo a 30-day observation according to a doctor's order after an evaluation.
The magistrate said he will ensure that Rose does not come to court and will appear on the video link from prison.
Rose added: “The people, veral die swartes (especially the Black people) in Pollsmoor is making life a living hell for me and nobody understands what I am talking about. I don’t know if they are aspris (deliberate) or if they are really deaf. The wardens, the head of Pollsmoor at the lady's prison and the prison itself, it is causing fear to my life. I want to place it on record dat ek sal iemand dood donner in Pollsmoor as hy langer met my gaan mors (I will assault someone to death if they mess with me any longer)."
