Somerset Mall has erected a new commercial frontier with the launch of a substantial expansion that introduces 26 sought-after brands to the Helderberg region, marking a significant milestone for local retail. The new 5,500m² development elevates the centre’s store count from 180 to 206, fulfilling a longstanding wish of Helderberg residents—access to premium retail without necessitating a trip to Cape Town.

This latest growth spurt is set to cater to more than just a diverse range of international offerings. Breaking new ground, the Safari Collection, a division of Safari Outdoor, has opened its first South African store at Somerset Mall, while the Italian brand Napapijri is gearing up for its debut in the Western Cape slated for early 2026. Yet, for families who have traditionally made the trek into the city for quality children’s toys, activewear, or contemporary style, the immediate gratification is the arrival of brands such as Skechers, Lego, Bella Luna, New Balance, Burnt, Curve Gear, Nicci Boutique, and JD Sports, all setting up shop this month.

“We’ve listened to what our community wants, and we’ve delivered,” remarks Nicholas Oliphant, General Manager of Somerset Mall. “This expansion responds directly to demand from Helderberg residents who deserve access to these brands on their doorstep. We’re building retail infrastructure that will serve this growing region for years to come.”

The benefits of Somerset Mall's expansion extend beyond retail availability. With the construction phase generating more than 1,200 jobs and the newly opened stores creating an additional 400 permanent positions, the centre is solidifying its status as a key player in the local economy. Somerset Mall and its tenants now collectively employ around 3,500 people across retail and hospitality, emphasising its role as one of the region’s largest employers.

The positive economic impact radiates outwards from the shopping centre, bolstering local suppliers, service providers, and the broader Helderberg economy. Each new store represents an influx of income for local households and generates opportunities for youth entering the workforce.

While Somerset Mall has anchored the Helderberg retail landscape for years, this expansion signals the dawn of a new era. The curated mix of international brands alongside beloved local favourites promises an elevated shopping experience that aligns with both the region’s growth and the evolving expectations of its residents.

Whether shopping for your kids’ latest trainers, hunting for that statement wardrobe piece, or simply enjoying a leisurely browse closer to home, visitors will find ample opportunities to engage with the new offerings at Somerset Mall.

Moreover, the momentum continues as phase two is on the horizon, with the anticipated Freedom Interactive Park set to launch in July 2026, pledging even more attractions to make Somerset Mall the ultimate family and entertainment destination.

With 206 stores now operational, Somerset Mall is not merely keeping pace with the Helderberg's growth—it's leading the charge. Plan your visit today to discover your new favourite brands!
