Severe weather forces cancellation of the Wings Over Winelands Airshow

Organisers have confirmed the official cancellation of the highly anticipated Wings Over Winelands Airshow, which was scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the iconic Vergelegen Wine Estate.
The decision was made on Tuesday May 12, 2026, following a careful assessment of the venue and surrounding areas after severe weather conditions, including a Category 8 weather warning, resulted in significant damage to the Vergelegen Wine Estate.
The organisers stated that after reviewing the damage, they have prioritised the safety of pilots, participants, staff, and spectators, making the cancellation necessary. In addition, a participating aircraft, including acts like the Marksman Aerobatic Display Team and the Aero L-29 Delfín jet display, were due to be ferried from Gauteng to the Western Cape, but these movements have been stood down due to the current conditions and venue damage.
The Wings Over Winelands Airshow, which was set to feature a full day of thrilling aerial displays and ground experiences like premium wine tasting and gourmet food offerings, is a highlight on the South African aviation calendar. Organisers extended their regret for the cancellation and confirmed that all tickets purchased for the event will be fully refunded via Quicket.
Updates regarding a possible new date for the event will be communicated once weather conditions are favourable.
