Two men captured on dashcam robbing an e-hailing driver at gunpoint have been arrested, following widespread public outrage after the video went viral on social media.
The footage, which has been widely shared online, shows the terrifying moments an unsuspecting driver was targeted while transporting two passengers. In the clip, one suspect sits in the front seat engaging the driver in casual conversation, while another is seated in the back.
The interaction initially appears ordinary, with the front passenger chatting, asking the driver’s name and commenting on the music playing in the car. However, the situation quickly escalates when the front passenger signals to his accomplice, who then pulls out a firearm and presses it against the driver’s neck.
The suspects proceed to rob the driver of his cellphone and cash, threatening to shoot him if he does not comply. The visibly shaken driver pleads with the men, assuring them that he had handed over everything in his possession.
The video ends with the suspects exiting the vehicle and instructing the driver to leave the scene.
The incident, which took place in Parkwood, sparked a wave of reactions online, with many describing the ordeal as traumatising, while others expressed relief that the driver survived the encounter.
However, developments on Tuesday evening have brought a measure of justice.
Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that two suspects, aged 20 and 28, were arrested on 28 April 2026 in connection with the robbery.
“They will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once they have been formally charged,” Twigg said.
In a separate video also circulating online, the same suspects can allegedly be seen being assaulted by community members. According to reports, residents mobilised to track down the men following the robbery.
The incident has drawn mixed reactions, with some members of the public condemning vigilante action, while others expressed frustration over crime levels and praised the community’s swift response.
Residents in the area have reportedly vowed not to protect individuals involved in criminal activity, saying those who terrorise communities must face consequences.
