Imagine a serene afternoon in Sydney, where a toddler and a dog enjoy playtime in the backyard, completely unaware of the visitor lounging above them.

This was the reality for a mother, known as Ash BG, who recently shared a startling video on TikTok that has since gone viral, amassing over 1.3 million views.

In the video, Ash captures a 2.5-metre python sunbathing on the roof of her home while she bottle feeds her child.

The juxtaposition of the innocent play below and the formidable snake above creates a striking image of life in Australia.

“Little did they know that after playing here all day, they would discover a 2.5 metre long python had been above them the entire time,” she remarked, adding, “In case you were wondering what it’s like to live in Australia.”

The video sparked a flurry of reactions from viewers, many expressing their apprehension about living in a country known for its unique wildlife.

One user, @daddyrach6, commented, “Australia never has to worry about me being there,” while another, @priscilla7534, stated, “Even if Australian companies offer me a good-paying job, I’m not going there.”

The phenomenon of snakes appearing in residential areas is not uncommon in Australia, particularly during snake season, which runs from September to April.

During this time, snakes become more active as they emerge from their winter dormancy, known as brumation.

This season is marked by warmer weather, prompting snakes to hunt for food and bask in the sun.

Meanwhile, snake season has already kicked in Mzansi as well.

Recently, a snake remover from Boland Snake Removers 24/7 was called to a property in Paarl to remove three snakes in the Western Cape.

The homeowner noticed a snake slithering towards some wooden logs stacked against a wall while she and her son were in the garden.

Three venomous puff adders were caught in one day at the property.
