ANANT Singh's production, Personal Best, has been nominated for a prestigious award in Monaco, that honours sports video content that creatively highlight sport and sportsmanship.
Personal Best, an immersive cinematic journey into the heart of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, follows extraordinary athletes as they push their limits, has been nominated for best thematic documentary prize in the golden podiums category of the SPORTEL awards hosted by the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.
The film, which seeks to honour athletes and the spirit of sportsmanship through rich, cinematic storytelling, premiered last month in Paris.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on October 20.
The SPORTEL awards recognise the best slow motion, the most powerful documentaries, the most impactful reports, the most creative advertising, as well as the jury’s special prize.
SPORTEL Monaco is the annual gathering of sports media and the broadcast and technology industries over a three-day period during which global leaders and innovative newcomers come together for a combination of exhibitions, networking and conferences for international sports media.
Personal Best, produced by Anant Singh, tracks athletes that includes world-renowned Kenyan middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon, Olympic sprinter Noah Lylesto and Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan. It also followed Léon Marchand in the swimming pool, Cindy Ngamba’s journey from refugee to medallist in the boxing ring, along with badminton stars Huang Yaqiong and Zheng Siwei, and surfing maestro, Jack Robinson.
With exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Paris 2024 Games and spectacular visuals of Paris, Personal Best captures the raw emotions of competition – the quiet moments before battle, the intensity of the challenges, and the unfiltered highs and lows of victory and defeat.
Singh said they were excited that Personal Best received a nomination for SPORTEL’s best thematic documentary award.
"Especially as SPORTEL makes its selection from the world’s top broadcasters and streaming services. This recognition is truly humbling for one little film celebrating the spirit of Paris 2024 and is a first for a South African/European Union production,” said Singh.
Personal Best is executive produced by Singh in collaboration with Olympic Channel Services (Yiannis Exarchos and Kotas Karvelas); co-directed by Ady Walter and Amal Doghmi. Original music is by South African composer, Paul Hepker.
