The New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane will host the 2026 Nedbank Cup final between Durban City and TS Galaxy on Saturday, May 2, the PSL and sponsors Nedbank announced on Thursday night.
This will be the second time a domestic cup final is held at the World Cup venue this season, having already hosted the Carling Knockout final, which was won by Orlando Pirates against Marumo Gallants.
Galaxy are set to be favourites for the Ke Yona showdown. While they haven’t been at their best in the league – losing seven games and drawing one in their last eight – they know how to win this competition.
The Rockets etched their name into the history books of South African football by becoming the first lower-division side to win the tournament in 2019 after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the final.
Granted, much of the Galaxy squad and coaching personnel from that 2019 triumph has since changed, but they still have assistant coach Bernard Parker, who was part of the Chiefs side that lost that final.
City, meanwhile, have already made history by reaching the final this season, becoming the first team to do so in their debut campaign in the top flight.
Reaching the final has already capped an impressive return to the elite league for the Citizens, who are on the verge of finishing in the top eight. They currently sit sixth on the log with 35 points, seven ahead of eighth-placed Golden Arrows.
However, merely reaching the final won’t be enough for either side, as both will be eager to lift the trophy and secure a place in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
The PSL is set to announce the kick-off time in due course.
