Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says impressive performances and good results are the reason supporters continue to back the team with every passing game.
Bafana are set to face Panama in an international friendly at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday night (7.30pm kick-off). According to Safa, the match has been sold out, with fans expected to come out in numbers to support the team.
The support that Bafana continue to receive is heart-warming, especially after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign in which they exited in the first round of the knockout stage after losing to Cameroon.
Following that Afcon campaign, there was some uncertainty about supporters’ unwavering backing ahead of the Fifa window. Broos believes the team restored that faith with their impressive 1-1 draw against Panama in the first friendly in Durban last Friday.
“I was very happy with the way we played on Friday. I think the performance spoke for us,” Broos said during the pre-match media briefing on Monday afternoon.
“Our Afcon in December was not good for various reasons, so I wanted to maintain the mentality and discipline in the team. I think we succeeded.
“I was happy with the performance, the mentality and discipline in the game. We had a debriefing this morning and spoke about a few things – most of them were good. There were a few details that we needed to improve."
Broos has vowed that the team will continue to make the supporters’ money worth it by delivering another impressive display in the Mother City.
“People are still behind us,” Broos said.
“We will need them tomorrow. From our side, we are ready to give them a nice evening, and that’s what we plan to do.”
It’s important for Bafana to continue performing at their best, as this will strengthen their World Cup preparations. After the Panama friendlies, Bafana will possibly play one more match on home soil before jetting out to Mexico.
