When Ethan Chislett stepped onto the pitch for his Kaizer Chiefs debut in the Soweto Derby on February 28, his family was watching from the stands.
Among them was his brother, Zack Chislett, who travelled to South Africa to witness the moment in person. Zack, a professional footballer himself, attended the match at FNB Stadium with their father, Donovan Chislett.
The family gathered to watch Ethan line up as a playmaker for Amakhosi against rivals Orlando Pirates in one of the biggest fixtures in South African football.
Speaking about the experience on TikTok, Zack said the moment was emotional for the family.
“Witnessing a family member make their debut for a club like Kaizer Chiefs is something special,” he said. “Being there in the stadium and seeing Ethan step onto the field was a moment I will never forget.”
The atmosphere inside FNB Stadium left a strong impression on him.
“The energy was incredible,” Zack said. “You could feel the passion from the fans from the first minute. The stadium was full, and the noise was constant. It made the occasion even bigger.”
Although Chiefs lost the derby, with Pirates extending their strong record in the fixture, Zack said that the result did not detract from the moment.
“For our family, it was still a proud day,” he said. “Watching Ethan play in a match of that magnitude meant a lot to us. We know how much work he has put in to reach this stage.”
He also reflected on the journey that led to the debut.
“I kept thinking about where it all started,” Zack said. “We grew up training together and pushing each other. Seeing him walk out in that jersey brought back many memories of those early days.”
Zack said that watching from the stands gave him a different perspective on his brother’s performance.
“As a player, you understand what someone is going through on the field,” he said. “I could see his focus. Every time he got the ball, the crowd reacted. That support was great to see.”
He added that the debut felt like the start of a new chapter.
“This is just the beginning,” Zack said. “There is still a lot more to come from Ethan, and we will keep supporting him every step of the way.”
Football is not the only project the brothers share. Off the field, they are also business partners. Together, they co-founded JOGA, a brand that produces lightweight personalised shin guards.
The brand, which Ethan recently launched in South Africa, reflects their shared connection to the sport.
“Football has always brought us together,” Zack said. “Whether it is playing, supporting each other, or working on something like JOGA.”
