If Orlando Pirates defeat Marumo Gallants on Saturday, it will mark a historic 11th consecutive home win.
Pirates host Gallants in Soweto in a Betway Premiership clash, and a victory will see them match the Premier Soccer League record of 11th consecutive home wins, held jointly by Santos, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Pirates have already surpassed a significant milestone by achieving 10 home wins in a row across all competitions, a feat they reached after a commanding 2-0 victory over the beleaguered Magesi on 31 January.
Pirates' impressive home run began with a narrow 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch on August 20 last year. Since then, they have tirelessly defended their fortress, racking up wins against formidable opponents.
Their home victories include a disciplined 1-0 win against Orbit College, a rampant 4-0 triumph over Lioli of Lesotho in the African Champions League, and recent successes against fellow league competitors like TS Galaxy, Siwelele, Polokwane City, St Eloi Lupopo from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chippa United, and returning to face Magesi for the second time.
Notably, the last time the Pirates failed to claim victory on their home turf was in the MTN8 semi-final second leg against Mamelodi Sundowns on August 16, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Since then, the Buccaneers have rallied magnificently, showcasing the kind of form that would intimidate any visiting side.
Looking back at the league's history, only 10 other clubs have achieved 10 consecutive home wins. Santos set the bar during the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, while Kaizer Chiefs enjoyed an impressive unbeaten spell from October 2013 to April 2014.
Mamelodi Sundowns equalled this record on two occasions, with their most recent run of ten consecutive games without defeat stretching back to April 2023.
