Chippa United has announced the surprise departure of their standout Nigerian goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper, who has been a subject of interest for Kaizer Chiefs, requested to leave the Gqeberha side after an impressive two-year stint during which he made 76 appearances.

Chippa’s chairperson, Siviwe Mpengesi, confirmed Nwabali’s exit in an official statement, thanking him for his commitment and professionalism throughout his time at the club.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” he stated.

Gratitude filled Nwabali’s farewell as he took to social media to express his heartfelt appreciation. In an emotional post, he highlighted the familial bond he developed with his teammates, coaches, and fans.

“It was more than a family. To my lovely teammates, dear coaches, amazing fans and best chairman in the world. As I stand here to say farewell, but more than a goodbye, I want to say thank you,” he wrote, encapsulating the deep connection he formed with the club.

While Chippa bids a fond farewell to one of its finest, the club has simultaneously bolstered its defensive lineup by signing experienced left-back Bongani Sam on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old is likely to reinvigorate the Chilli Boys’ campaign as they aim to secure their position in the Betway Premiership following a challenging period without regular game time.

Sam, known for his robust tackling and attacking prowess, will look to make an immediate impact, helping to lift Chippa United as they strive to climb the league table and avoid relegation.

With these changes, the club appears focused on solidifying its strategy for the season ahead as it adapts to the shifting dynamics of the Premiership.
