Jeandre Gaffoor: Stellenbosch FC midfielder and former Cape Town Spurs youth star dies

Stellenbosch FC are mourning the loss of Diski Challenge player Jeandre Gaffoor, who reportedly passed away on Sunday, 1 February.
Gaffoor’s agency, Prosport International, announced the news in a statement shared on social media, saying it was ‘deeply saddened by the passing of Jeandre Gaffoor’.
The agency extended its condolences to his family, friends, Stellenbosch FC and the wider football community, adding that ‘Jeandre's presence, passion and contribution to the game will always be remembered’.
Stellenbosch FC have yet to release an official statement related to his death with the exact circumstances unclear at this stage.
Gaffoor, 20, hailed from Blackheath Cape Town, and came through the youth ranks at Cape Town Spurs before his move to Stellenbosch FC’s DStv Diski Challenge side last year.
His former club, Cape Town Spurs, also paid tribute to the midfielder.
“Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jeandre Gaffoor. The Cape Town Spurs family mourns with you during this unimaginable loss. May cherished memories bring you comfort,” the statement read.
ProSport International CEO Mike Makaab passed on his condolences.
"In these difficult, painful moments we can only look to God and ask for courage and strength to help us overcome our grief. May your beautiful soul RIP, Jeandre," Makaab posted on X.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. We will meet again in a place where there are no more tears, and suffering no longer exists. You will never be forgotten young man."
Stellenbosch FC went down 3-0 to CR Belouizdad in their Caf Confederation Cup Group C match played at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday afternoon.
