Glody Lilepo: Was Kaizer Chiefs star's wonder goal against Gallants a fluke?

Bend it like Glody Lilepo!

That could soon be the new mantra among locals, particularly Kaizer Chiefs supporters, after the forward added another curling strike to his collection on Wednesday night.

Chiefs beat Marumo Gallants 1–0 at Seisa Ramadou Stadium midweek, courtesy of Lilepo’s goal, to move within two points of log leaders and champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership.

Lilepo’s goal was a cracker, albeit a bizarre one. The attacker did well to bypass his marker some metres from the corner flag before hitting an effort that curled through the air and sailed into the far corner of Washington Arubi’s goal to give his side the lead and the eventual winner.

The football fraternity was left confused as to whether the Congolese forward’s effort was intentional or merely a mishit cross. A question that Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze also found himself asking hours after the game.

“I don’t know if Lilepo meant it or not. But actually, he told us at halftime that he was going to score in the match,” said Kaze a day later during a radio interview on Radio 2000's Game On with Thabiso Mosia.

“He had noticed that Arubi always comes off his line. He said he wanted to put in more crosses and would try to score, and that’s what happened.”

However, a video of Lilepo scoring similar strikes to the one he netted against Gallants has since done the rounds on social media, somewhat vindicating the notion that the 28-year-old did not fluke what could potentially be a candidate for Goal of the Month and even Goal of the Season.

With the clip consisting of his goal from continental football matches, Chiefs fans and neutrals alike will hope Lilepo can repeat the feat when they face Zesco United in their fourth CAF Confederation Cup group-stage clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon (3pm kick-off).
