The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon has boosted its commitment to runner safety ahead of the 2026 edition by appointing Mediclinic and ER24 as its official medical service providers.
The move will significantly strengthen medical support across both race routes and at the finish line.
With thousands of runners expected to tackle the iconic Ultra and Half Marathon courses, organisers say the enhanced medical presence will ensure faster response times and world-class care throughout race day.
A total of 10 medical points will be positioned along the 56km Ultra Marathon route, while five will service the Half Marathon. A fully equipped medical facility, including ICU and trauma services, will operate at the finish area, supported by ER24’s pre-hospital emergency teams and transport services.
Two Oceans Marathon Enhances Participant Safety with Expanded Medical Infrastructure for 2026 Edition
Two Oceans Marathon chairperson Chris Goldschmidt said the appointment reflects a major investment in participant health and safety.
“The 2026 edition represents a significant step forward in our medical operations, ensuring robust health support from the start to the finish,” Goldschmidt said.
Race general manager Wade Bromfield added that the expanded medical infrastructure would allow organisers to focus on delivering a seamless race experience.
“The expertise of Mediclinic and ER24 gives runners confidence, knowing that world-class medical care is available throughout the event,” Bromfield said.
Mediclinic’s Chief Medical Director for the event, doctor Darren Green, will oversee all medical operations, from routine treatments to critical emergencies along the route.
“Our team of doctors, nurses, and medics will be strategically positioned to provide rapid, high-quality care,” Green said. “The aim is simple – to allow every runner to focus on their race, knowing expert medical support is close at hand.”
The race takes place in April and remains one of the most anticipated events on South Africa’s road running calendar.
