Swallows search high and low for new coach
Johannesburg - It might not quite equate to "Round the World in 80 Days" - but four European countries in a hectic five days in what is primarily a search for a new head coach has Moroka Swallows CEO Leon Prins spinning on his axis.
Currently in Holland, The Birds' CEO will also be globe-trotting to Germany, Denmark and Italy by the week-end after which he might come up with a new coach and/or new players for the Nedbank Cup champions.
But Prins stressed from Amsterdam on Tuesday that it was very much a reconnaissance trip in which he would weigh up several propositions placed in his lap.
"If something promising materialises in the coaching sphere or the playing area, well and good," added the the Swallows CEO, "but I am not making any signings for the sake of making signings.
"We have a very able interim trio in assistant coach Zeca Marques, development director Eddie Lewis and fitness coach Japhet Borges looking after the first-team squad," added Prins, "and they are fully capable of doing the job until something suitable comes along as the new head coach."
The Swallows CEO said it was "a similar situation" regarding players - with a squad that includes an exciting new signing in former Bafana Bafana star Siyabonga Nomvete coming on encouragingly for the new season.
Pointedly, Prins will be spending time in Wolfsburg where club sponsors Volkswagen have their headquarters - and Volkswagen-sponsored German Bundes League champions FC Wolfsburg are also situated. - Sapa
