Ajax set for R70m sponsorship
Ajax Cape Town are set for a massive financial boost as they go in search of league and cup glory in the final two months of the season.
Word is that cellular giants MTN, who recently dropped out as backers of Mamelodi Sundowns, will on Friday announce a five-year R70-million deal in favour of the ambitious Urban Warriors.
Ajax have operated without a major sponsor for the past five years, but still managed to set high standards on and off the pitch.
With only seven matches to go, they lie second in the Absa Premiership standings, a point behind SuperSport United, but with a game in hand.
They are also through to the second round of the Caf Cup after an impressive 5-1 aggregate win over Anse Reunion of the Seychelles.
"At this stage I know as much (about the expected sponsorship) as you do," said an unconvincing media officer Shooz Mekuto on Wednesday before referring to a news conference to be held at the club's Ikamva headquarters on Thursday.
