Woods tightens grip at Doral
Miami - Holder Tiger Woods, hunting a 13th WGC title, strengthened his grip on the WGC-CA Championship with a four-under-par 68 in Saturday's third round.
Two ahead at the start of another blustery day at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, the world No 1 ended it four strokes clear on 11-under 205.
Woods made a red-hot start, eagling the par-five first, before mixing three birdies with a lone bogey to finish comfortably ahead of US Ryder Cup team-mate Brett Wetterich (67).
"I'm very happy with how I played today," Ohio native Wetterich told reporters. "I hit a lot of solid shots, hit a few close and made some good birdie putts.
"But I'm sure it will be a different tournament getting paired with Tiger," added the 33-year-old, whose only PGA Tour victory came at last year's Byron Nelson Championship.
"I haven't played with him in a tournament round before, although we did play nine holes together at the Ryder Cup. I definitely still have a lot to prove, not only to myself but to guys out here."
Australian left-hander Nick O'Hern was alone in third place at six-under, birdies on three of the last five holes giving him a joint best-of-the-day 66.
South African Ernie Els, the 2004 champion, had been tied for second playing the last before double-bogeying the par-four hole for a 71 and a tie for fourth place at five- under.
Five-times champion Woods, who charged ahead of the field with a six-birdie 66 in Friday's second round, made a fast start after pounding a 296-yard drive down the first fairway.
He then struck a long iron from 229 yards to within 10 feet of the flag and rolled in the putt for an eagle-three.
After doing well to save par at the par-four third with a delicate up-and-down from the left side of an elevated green, he missed a seven-footer to bogey the par-four sixth.
But Woods immediately came back, hitting his approach to nine feet at the par-four seventh and making the birdie putt.
Although he missed the fairway to the right with his drive at the par-five eighth, he recovered well before pitching to four feet to set up his second birdie.
Three strokes clear at the turn, he picked up his final shot of the day at the par-four 16th where he drove into the front right greenside bunker and hit his second shot to six feet.
