Bafana coach to earn a whopping salary

The South African Football Association (Safa) has offered a R1,8-million per month salary to incoming Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, SABC news reported on Monday.

Safa appeared before Parliament on Monday morning to describe its plans to reshape South Africa's soccer teams for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Safa's technical committee chairperson, Sturu Pasiya, said other plans presented to Parliament included establishing a forum to consider the appointment of future coaches.

He said this was because Safa wanted to set high standards and make sure they "don't get just any coach".

The committee also reportedly voiced concerns about foreign players participating in the Mvela League.

It felt more needed to be done to reserve the Mvela League for South African players, so that they could be groomed to play in South Africa's national team. - Sapa
