High-riding Ghana put out feelers for Igesund

Former Ajax Cape Town coach Gordon Igesund could soon become coach of Ghana, Africa's most successful nation at the recent World Cup finals.

Igesund was one of seven men in line for the vacant Bafana Bafana post which at the weekend was handed to Carlos Alberto Parreiro who quit in July as Brazil's coach. According to the KickOff.comwebsite, Igesund has also received inquiries from the Cameroon federation.

Ghana's Black Stars, under Serbian Rotomir Dujkovic, caused a major upset at the World Cup where they beat the Czech Republic in the tournament's first round before losing to Brazil in the second round. They where the only African nation to qualify for the second round.

Dujkovic resigned soon after the finals in Germany.

Igesund, who guided Santos, Orlando Pirates and Manning Rangers to PSL championships, said he was flattered by the interest from Ghana.

"At this stage I can't say much as Mike Makaab (his agent) is currently handling the issue, but it will be a great honour for me to coach one of the biggest teams in Africa."

Meanwhile Swaziland have appointed Egyptian Ayman El Yamani as their new coach - the third for the national side in the last six months.

No details were given of his contract by Swaziland officials but the former Zamalek player replaces Belgium's Jan van Winckel and begins his new job in Mbabane today.

El Yamani was national coach of Mozambique in 2004 and has since remained in the country working at club level. Swaziland next month host World Cup finalists Angola in the qualifiers for the 2008 African Nations Cup finals.
