Jordaan and Co line up Parreira

A "brains trust" of South African soccer heads for Brazil on Tuesday to sign up Carlos Alberto Parreira as the next Bafana coach.

At what will probably be a secret rendezvous, Danny Jordaan, Sturu Pasiya and Ted Dumitru will meet the man who dare not show his face on the streets of Rio de Janeiro after Brazil's dismal performance at Germany 2006.

Jordaan, not content to be just head of the local organising committee for World Cup 2010, wants to "organise" a high-profile coach for Bafana.

His assistants, Dumitru and Pasiya - a pair unlikely to spot a good soccer coach if they fell over one - will help Jordaan persuade Parreira that South Africa is the place to work for the next four years.

Parreira, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994, but failed to revive the fortunes of Kuwait in 82, the UAE in 90 and was sacked by the Saudis before the end of the first round at France '98, is said to be offered between R1-million and R2-million a month to guide Bafana.

Someone should mention to Jordaan and Co that high-profile is not always best.
