Ertugral set to take charge of Ajax

Muhsin Ertugral will on Tuesday be named the new Ajax Cape Town coach.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach is to replace Gordon Igesund who was sacked by the Cape Premier League club last week with 12 months of his five-year contract to serve.

It is believed Ertugral, 46, was interviewed by the Cape club's senior partner, Ajax Amsterdam, in the Dutch capital last week. At the same time it was reported that former Ajax Amsterdam assistant coach Ruud Krol would replace Igesund but it appears Ertugral convinced officials he was the man for the Cape Town post and that he would adopt the "Dutch system of playing".

Besides Ajax's failure to challenge for the championship in the past five seasons, it was Igesund's reluctance to use the "Dutch system" that led to his dismissal.

After leaving Chiefs, Ertugral had a brief spell at Santos before going overseas where he guided Matterberg in the Austrian first division for a couple of seasons.

The Turk also coached the national side of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
