Downs concede injury time draw

Mamelodi Sundowns walked onto the pitch to a stirring welcome from their supporters at Securicor Loftus on Tuesday night, but made their way back to the dressing room without many cheers from a stunned crowd.

With a one-goal lead going into the dying minutes of the game courtesy of a scrambled shot by striker Sandile Ndlovu, after Golden Arrows goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje failed to handle a curling free-kick, the Brazilians were made to settle for a draw well into time added on.

However, the Brazilians went to bed on Tuesday night at the top of the Premier League log with seven points, but this may last for only 24 hours if Orlando Pirates manage to beat Santos away from home on Wednesday night.

For Sundowns it was the same old story again of being wasteful in front of goal even though they were denied by the woodwork once and had another effort cleared off the line by Kakonje.

But for visiting coach Khabo Zondo defeat here would have been harsh as his predominantly youthful team managed to hold their own against their more fancied opponents.

They got what they deserved during referee's optional time when, from a corner kick, veteran striker Alton Meiring headed above everyone in the Sundowns box to beat Brian Baloyi.

Early in the game, attacking Sundowns midfielder Clement Mazibuko sent Arrows counterpart Papi Zothwane the wrong way but his tame shot landed straight in the safe hands of Kakonje.
