Boo boys not welcome at Ellis Park

Booing the national team may be taboo, but Ellis Park officials would be helpless were fans to repeat the antics of their Durban counterparts in Saturday's Test.

Spectators at the Durban Test booed the Springboks for their inept performance in the first hour of the match against Scotland, but Ellis Park officials are keeping their fingers crossed they don't host a repeat.

"It was in very poor taste," Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) chief executive Johan Prinsloo lashed out on Monday. "We don't expect people to start booing in our stadium. We believe the fans in Johannesburg love and understand their sport and that there will be no need to resort to booing."

Just last year, however, Ellis Park spectators vented their anger at Australia captain George Gregan by pelting him with bottles after the Wallabies scored a try late in the match. "I don't know how people can start booing their team. We often hear we are a rugby-loving nation, but that kind of behaviour is not consistent with rugby-loving folk," Prinsloo stressed.

"Ticket sales are going well and currently we are on track to sell 40 000.

Park 'n Ride facilities will also be available. Buses will go from Montecasino, Bez Valley, East Rand Mall and Wits and are available at R30 from Computicket. Tickets for the game cost between R200 and R250.
