Cosmos to meet Chiefs in Coca-Cola Cup final

Published

Jomo Cosmos will play defending champions Kaizer Chiefs in the 2002 Coca-Cola Cup final after beating Manning Rangers 1-0 at the HM Pitje Stadium on Sunday, to set up a repeat of last year's final which Chiefs won 5-0.

Rangers were reduced to 10-man after midfielder Gideon Noge was shown a red card in the 30th minute for a rough tackle on Cosmos' midfielder Innocent Ntsume.

Cosmos now face Chiefs, who beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0 in the other semifinal played in Cape Town on Saturday.

Cosmos' victory came in the second minute of extra time through Bafana Bafana striker Lebohang Kukame, who until he struck, was having a game he will want to forget in a hurry.

Throughout the afternoon, the lanky former Amaglug-glug attacker missed opportunity after another, but his coach Jomo Sono's insistence in him paid handsome dividends.

Manning Rangers, who played with the same determination even after their one player went for an early shower, will feel disappointed after giving a solid display on the day.

Meanwhile, Sono will have some harsh words for his players, who chose the wrong options while on the attack against a team who were a man down. - Sapa
