Afzal Khan has quit as general manager of Premier League soccer champions Santos.

Khan confirmed his decision from Durban on Wednesday morning. He will be returning to his former club Manning Rangers, where he has been offered a directorship and shares in the club.

"This was an opportunity I could not turn down. I enjoyed my stay at Santos since 1998, but now the club does not match my ambitions," said Khan.

"I had offers from four clubs around the country including Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town, and decided to accept the one from Manning Rangers.

Santos owner Goolam Allie said he would comment once he receives Khan's resignation in writing.
