Sharks take to the road

The organisers of the Pick 'n Pay AmaShovashova Classic cycle race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban rolled out the heavyweights at the Durban launch on Thursday when they revealed that the charity portion of the event would pit the Sharks rugby contingent against a northern contingent that includes former Sharks and Springbok prop Guy Kebble on October 27.

John Allan is due to lead a Sharks brigade featuring Gary Teichmann and Cabous van der Westhuizen.

Kebble will be joined in the northern line-up by another ex-Bok in James Dalton, Bulls wing Hannes Venter, heavyweight boxer Corrie Sanders and national strongman champion Ettienne Smit.

Kebble has been deemed eligible for the northern contingent on the basis that he finished his career at the Gauteng Falcons. The big man has never been at a loss for words. "Cycling is a new sport for me, but I'm getting into it," he chirped.
