Bafana Bafana star Sizwe Motaung will be buried in Osizweni, Newcastle on Thursday.

The families from both sides of his parents, the Motaung and Goqo agreed to settle the controversy as to who should bury the soccer hero who died last week.

It was agreed that his father, Mogafisi Motaung would make funeral arrangements. The decision was taken on Sunday in a meeting between the Motaungs and the Goqos.

There had been wrangling about who should bury Motaung.

The Motaungs' close friend Gijimani Mncube said the Motaungs would take legal action against certain newspapers which reported that Sizwe had died of Aids.

He said Dr Sibongiseni Dlomo, who diagnosed Sizwe, had told the family that Sizwe had been infected by a pneumonia. "Soon after the funeral, we will take these newspapers to task," he said.

On Tuesday, local mayor BA Dlamini and other councillors, prominent soccer stars, PSL representatives and football lovers will gather at the local Catholic Church Hall for a memorial service.

The funeral service will be held at the Osizweni stadium from 10am to 2pm.

Motaung made a name for himself during his illustrious football career.
