Milan - The year 2018 could see the launch of a new football star if Ronald, the son of the world's best striker Ronaldo, lives up to his initial promise.

"Ronald did one of my sprints," said the Brazilian phenomenon after his wife, Milene Dominguez, gave birth to a boy in a Milan hospital on Thursday, a few days ahead of the expected date.

Weighing 2,9kg and measuring 52cm, Ronald kicked about for the first time at 12.40pm.

"Ronald will be able to do whatever he wants. Should he decide to become a football player, I am sure I will be able to teach him a few tricks," said Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, who assisted Milene during the childbirth, said it was "the best day of my life".

His club, Inter Milan, have set up an email address for those who want to send their wishes to the new parents: [email protected].

Ronaldo, who has been sidelined by injuries for months, plans to return to action in the Italian Cup final against Lazio next week.

"I know whom I will dedicate my next goal to," he said. - Sapa-DP
