Last ditch win for Boland

Published

Wellington - A try in the dying minutes of their Vodacom Cup rugby match by substitute Danie le Roux saw home side Boland beat Eastern Province 41-39 at the Boland Stadium on Saturday.

The scores were level at 19-19 at half-time.

EP made all the early running and led 19-5 after tries by lock Gerhard Laufs, wing John Nelson and flanker Wayne van Heerden.

Boland came back just before the break scoring well-worked tries through the outstanding right wing John Daniels and flank Quinn Hough.

EP regained the momentum early in the second half and were soon in front again after a Graeme Bouwer try and a penalty by Andre Fourie.

A series of comic errors at the back kept the hosts under pressure and resulted in substitute Ronnie Fourie's try after Boland fullback Warren Pietersen failed to control a kick forward.

The home side came back yet again and number eight Sean Furter rounded off a fine move.

Andre Fourie goaled another penalty to extend EP's lead to 39-34 before substitute fullback Le Roux scored the winning try.
