I'd love to play in one-dayers - Donald

Allan Donald on Wednesday denied that he had turned down a request from the United Cricket Board of SA to play in the six one-day internationals against Australia later this year.

The ace strike bowler said he had been forced to withdraw his availability for the matches - three in South Africa in April and three in Australia in August - because of his commitment to English side Warwickshire.

"Warwickshire insist I commit myself entirely to them during the English summer," said Donald, "and by that they mean 100 percent, not 90 or 95 percent.

"Unfortunately, that rules me out of the one-dayers against Australia, but the report that suggests it was my doing is not true.

"It would only be a couple of weeks, but I suppose Warwickshire are entitled to insist I don't play in the one-dayers. After all, I was contracted to them last season and only managed to play a few matches because of the World Cup and then the ankle injury I picked up.

"Still, it's extremely disappointing."

Donald remains committed to helping South Africa win the Test series in India.

"While Donald's absence during the Australian one-day internationals is regrettable, it will provide an opportunity for one of South Africa's exciting emerging fast bowlers to make his mark in international cricket," said UCB managing director Ali Bacher on Wednesday.
