Hansie giving his all to India Tests

Hansie Cronje refuses to broach the subject about his future in the national side, instead focusing on helping South Africa to a Test series win in India.

The South African captain has been in the news a lot lately, with some reports suggesting this could be his last season in international cricket, but he refuses to think about what he will do when his contract with the United Cricket Board of South Africa expires in April.

"It's not about individuals. It's about how the team is going to do in India," said Cronje shortly before the squad's departure on Wednesday.

"This is a big test for us in terms of how we've come along as a team since the changes of late. We are in something of a period of transition at the moment, with quite a few of the guys reaching the age where they will be considering retiring.

"India is a difficult place to tour. Australia couldn't win there last year, so if we can come away with something it will be a huge feather in our cap. In fact, if we win there I would regard it as one of our finest achievements.

"I haven't even started thinking about April and what I'll decide about my future. At the moment, the emphasis is on India and how best I can lead the team on what will be a tough tour."

The itinerary is hardly in South Africa's favour, with a three-day warm-up match against a President's XI in Bombay two days after their arrival and the first Test, also in Bombay, from February 24-28.

"The fact that we have just come off a triangular one-day series with England and Zimbabwe means the guys will have to work extra hard to get into first-class mode," conceded coach Graham Ford.

"But I am confident they are up to it. They showed a tremendous amount of character in coming back from the dead to beat England in the limited-overs final. If they are similarly determined in India, I reckon we could win the series."
