Nomvete still a Chief as offers pour in

Kaizer Chiefs have received countless offers for the services of red-hot striker Siyabonga Nomvete, but they have not concluded any deal nor has the player signed for any team, at least for the time being.

Chiefs managing director Kaizer Motaung said they have been flooded with offers from Germany, England, Belgium, France and Italy, with Serie A side Perugia the only ones to have actually put an offer on the table.

"Perugia are the only ones who travelled all the way to Naturena, put an offer on the table and that showed their desire to sign the boy," said Motaung.

"They wanted to close the deal right there and then after watching him in the opening game of the African Cup of Nations against Gabon in Kumasi.

"But, as much as the offer was good and as much as I do not want to stand in the youngster's way, there are a couple of issues which need to be addressed first, like we cannot just release the boy like that at this crucial stage of the league championship."

Motaung said he agreed in principle to release Nomvete to Perugia, but only at the end of the current season as Chiefs still need him during the second round of the championship race.

The Chiefs boss also revealed that the Amakhosi will no longer pursue their former striker Pollen "Trompies" Ndlanya, currently with Bafana Bafana in Nigeria.

Motaung said Ndlanya's agent Orhan Chinzoglu was playing them (Chiefs) up against Orlando Pirates and Sundowns, and would rather withdraw from the race for his signature than become involved in a bidding war against his rivals.
