Social media was set alight this week after news broke that influencer and former girlfriend of TV presenter Katlego Maboe, Monique Muller, was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm, allegedly linked to gang activity in Cape Town.
Muller, along with several co-accused, appeared at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on October 21, after being arrested in Ravensmead, Cape Town, last Sunday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrest, stating: “She faces a charge for the illegal possession of a firearm together with other suspects and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court... where the case was remanded until October 30.”
According to sources, the home searched by police is allegedly linked to a suspected gang hitman, raising eyebrows over how Muller became entangled in the unfolding investigation.
The news has reignited public curiosity around Muller, whose name dominated headlines in 2020 during her high-profile split from media personality Katlego Maboe. Their breakup, marked by viral videos and allegations of infidelity and domestic abuse, sparked national debate and saw Maboe’s career take a sharp nosedive.
The Expresso Morning Show presenter was temporarily removed from air, lost brand endorsements, and was dropped from SAFTA nominations, though he has since reclaimed his public image and returned to television.
Muller, meanwhile, had remained out of the spotlight in recent years, focusing on her private life, until now.
While police have clarified that Muller’s current charges are unrelated to her past personal controversies, her sudden return to the headlines has stirred online speculation and reignited discussions about the pair’s tumultuous past.
