Ahead of the Cape Town Cycle Tour this Sunday, Prasa Western Cape has announced additional train services to help commuters avoid road closures and heavy traffic.
The Cycle Tour takes place on Sunday, March 8.
Prasa Western Cape has a R50 charge for cyclists and a R20 charge for spectators, which covers the complete round trip, giving commuters easy access to the race start and prime viewing spots along the southern line.
It said this was for commuters to avoid road closures and congestion while making race day greener and more enjoyable for everyone.
Commuters have been urged to drive to the nearest train station, park, and take the train.
The following stations along the southern line (Cape Town to Fish Hoek) offer parking on race day:
- Observatory - Public parking opposite the station
- Rosebank - Public parking opposite the station
- Rondebosch - Public parking opposite the station
- Kenilworth - Public parking opposite the station
- Lakeside (False Bay) - PRASA secure parking
- Fish Hoek - Public parking opposite the station and at the beach
- Glencairn - PRASA parking
The following train stations along the northern line (Strand to Kraaifontein to Cape Town) offer parking:
- Tygerberg station (PRASA parking)
- Vasco station (PRASA parking)
Prasa Western Cape Regional Manager, Raymond Maseko, urged commuters to arrive early to secure their spots and allow enough travel time before the event.
“Prasa Protection Services, in coordination with law enforcement, will maintain a strong security presence at stations and parking areas along the southern line throughout the day,” he said.
Maseko said travelling by train is the smartest way to get a fill of all the action.
“The Cape Town Cycle Tour is one of the most iconic events on our provincial calendar, and PRASA Western Cape is proud to support it. For just R50 return for cyclists and R20 for spectators, the People’s Train is the smartest way to be part of the action - leave the car at home and enjoy the ride,” he said.
Full train schedules and service details will be published on Prasa Western Cape’s official social media channels ahead of the event.
