The African National Congress (ANC) told members believed to be "masquerading" within the party while waiting to join the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) to not hold their peace and leave.
This came after the party leadership became aware that there were ANC members, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), who were patiently waiting for the right time to join the MK Party.
The MK Party is led by former president Jacob Zuma, who at some point led the ANC.
The KZN ANC leadership was reporting to the ANC's National Working Committee (NWC) on the province's dismal showing in the May 29 national and provincial elections.
A number of ANC members have blamed the party's electoral loss in KZN on several reasons, including the participation of certain members who have also sided with the MK Party.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the NWC meeting, ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said they will not dwell much on the matter because they aimed to rebuild the lost province.
“We have been made to believe that we are having people who we said to be working for the MK party. We are not really in the business of hounding people and second-guessing our own leaders and members," she said.
“We believe that those that don't find pleasure in the ANC anymore are free to go to whichever party. We fought for this democracy. We can't be the ones that are subverting it in any way, including conspiring on people that are said to be part of the MK party.”
