Two men were killed and four other people wounded when gunmen opened fire outside a tavern in Zamimpilo Informal Settlement, Langlaagte, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the shooting happened at about 3am while more than 40 people were gathered outside the tavern drinking and socialising.

"It is alleged that a group of more than 40 people were sitting outside a tavern, drinking and socialising, when three unknown suspects approached and, without saying anything, opened fire on the group," Sibeko said.

"Six people were shot during the incident. Two adult males were fatally wounded, while four other victims were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Sibeko added that the suspects fled the scene and have not yet been arrested.

"The suspects are unknown at this stage, and the motive for the attack is yet to be determined. Police investigations are ongoing," Sibeko added.

"Anyone with information that may assist the police investigation is urged to contact the Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111 or submit information via the MySAPS App".
