A Zimbabwean national is expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court after being found in possession of over R200,000 worth of drugs.
The 36-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, March 28, by members of the Worcester Crime Prevention Unit.
The provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the truck was intercepted along the N1 highway en route to Cape Town.
“The members conducted an intelligence-driven operation, and the truck was stopped near Meirings Park on the N1 Highway. The members searched the truck and found 1,045 kilograms of methamphetamine (tik) hidden in a plastic container in the truck. A 36-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested for the possession of drugs. The estimated street value of the drugs is R209,000,” Twigg said.

In an unrelated matter, a 28-year-old man was arrested by members of the Public Order Policing (POP) in Manenberg.
“Members of Public Order Police searched a premises in Johanna Court, Manenberg and arrested a 28-year-old male when they found 69 small packets containing crystal meth, 12 mandrax tablets, and 25 half mandrax tablets in possession of the suspect. He is due to make a court appearance in Athlone today,” Twigg said.
In a separate incident, Members of Operation Lockdown III conducted crime prevention duties in Hanover Park due to ongoing gang violence in the area.
During this time, members searched a premises on Rywood Walk.
“They found a 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, 26 mandrax tablets and six half mandrax tablets. They arrested a 39-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
The suspect is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged,” Twigg said.
