The Pinelands High School’s Jazz Band finished as runners-up in the fiercely contested Band Slam Finals held at the amphitheatre at the V & A Waterfront on Friday, May 15.

Settlers High School in Bellville finished in first place, while Rustenburg Girls’ High School finished third.

Band Slam is a school’s music competition that gives high school bands in the Western Cape the opportunity to perform in a live public setting and share their music with a wider audience. This year, 44 high schools entered the competition, with the field later narrowed to 15 semifinalists, who performed over four nights. Three schools were then selected to participate in the finals, a great honour in itself.

According to a Pinelands High School statement, this result is a significant achievement for the school’s Jazz Band and reflects the many hours of rehearsal and teamwork that went into their performance.
