Bothasig residents shocked as truck crashes into kitchen during morning coffee
A container truck collided with a house in Bothasig, leaving one person injured and the occupants shaken but unharmed.

Frank Samunda was drinking a cup of coffee in the kitchen when a container truck crashed into the house he was in in Bothasig on Thursday.
“My colleagues and I were in the house. I was drinking coffee in the kitchen, and one of the ladies was cooking,” a shaken Samunda said while standing among the debris.
“Then we just heard a loud sound coming from the right side of the kitchen. "It (the truck) first smashed the walls and then crashed through the kitchen door. Everyone was in shock, thankfully, we are all good. One was injured.”
A video and images of the accident were shared widely on social media on Thursday, showing the truck driving along the corners of Bosmansdam and Ocean Spirit Avenue.

It appeared to swerve from a MyCiTi bus when it made a sharp turn to avoid impact with the bus and hit a vehicle before crashing into the house.
Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, said: “The City is investigating the circumstances of the incident and will be able to give further comment once we have obtained the details.”
Samunda said he and the other occupants rushed outside and made sure the driver was okay before the paramedics arrived.
“We could see part of the truck inside the house, and then we went outside,” he said.
“The paramedics arrived early, and the driver was taken to the hospital. All of us inside the house are okay, we thank God that our lives were spared. I was standing just a metre from where the truck had crashed through.”
