A former Kommetjie Primary School principal has been appointed deputy principal at Simon’s Town School, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed, following the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings linked to a controversial Facebook post in 2025.
WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said George Gueorguiev was appointed at the end of the first term, after the department concluded that he was not guilty of the alleged discriminatory and hateful posts.
According to Hammond, Gueorguiev was able to provide evidence substantiating that no wrongdoing had occurred.
Gueorguiev was removed from his post in 2025 following public allegations relating to an alleged social media account linked to him.
The account contained content that sparked concern among parents and drew public attention at the time.
Hammond said the former principal was found guilty of misconduct relating to non-compliance and, following the sanction imposed, was appointed to a deputy principal position.
“Mr Gueorguiev has integrated well into the school and continues to contribute positively to its functioning to enable quality education,” Hammond said.
The WCED added that due process had been followed throughout the disciplinary process and that the outcome resulted in his redeployment within the system.
