Bellville South 'sister killer' wants Afrikaans-speaking lawyer

Murder-accused Aletta Rose, 63, was back in the dock on Tuesday at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court, where she demanded a new legal representative who can speak Afrikaans.

Rose is accused of the murder of her sister Constance Scholtz, 79, whom she allegedly beheaded and cut her hands off in March inside her Bellville South home.

Rose was previously convicted of murdering her brother-in-law in 1997.

Rose on Tuesday told the court that she does not want her current legal aid representative to represent her because they don’t speak Afrikaans.

The case was postponed to Thursday for Rose to get an Afrikaans legal representative.

Her nephew and son of the victim, Menno Rose, claims that his aunt is using delaying tactics and showed no remorse.

Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, he said: “I think it is delay tactics that is being played out in court this

morning. But from the family’s side and me personally, we have full confidence in the court system and that this issue I think they want to prolong will be sorted out as quickly as possible. We, as a family, believe that the truth will prevail and that justice will also prevail. At this point in time, I don’t think there is any remorse."
