A Cape Town family who experienced a horror tyre bust incident as three criminals were lurking in the bushes were scared off after a traffic officer stopped to assist the mom and her children.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at about 7.30pm on Vanguard Drive, near the Samora Machel informal settlement.
She said in a statement on social media that her kids were with her in the vehicle when they were left stranded, as the rim of one of her wheels was bent.
She explained: “As a parent and mother, I prayed so hard not for me but for my kids. They cried out of fear of being hurt or killed, as that is a known spot.
“I called 112 and spoke with a gentleman named Basil, who reassured me that he would try his best. I let my kids lie flat and put all the lights off in the car. Basil called me back and advised that help is on the way.
“A few metres away, we saw three males who walked to the opposite side of Vanguard and stood there for a few minutes before making their way back to the side I was stranded on.
“Two of them disappeared into the bush and slowly made their way towards us. At the moment, God sent His angel, Inspector Arnold from the traffic department, and they retracted.”
She added that while waiting for just 10 minutes for the inspector, it felt like forever.
She said he protected her family and waited with them until a tow truck operator known to him stopped and changed her wheel.
The officer also escorted the family to a nearby garage to check on the other wheels.
The mom added: “Inspector Arnold, may you and your family forever be blessed.”
Jacobs said: “Inspector Arnold from the City’s Traffic Service arrived and stayed with the family, arranged a tow truck, and escorted them to a garage to check the other wheels before ensuring they got home safely.”
Motorists are reminded to phone the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700 and to ensure that this number is saved on your cellphone in the event of an emergency.
