Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the hijacking of two women and the murder of one of them in Atlantis last week.

According to reports, the two women from Kleinvlei in Eerste River were hijacked in Kraaifontein and later found in Atlantis on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

A 30-year-old woman was lucky enough to escape naked and with burns and stab wounds to her body. She then alerted security, who informed police.

The other woman was found dead in a burned-out vehicle.

According to Atlantis crime activist, Peter Stoffberg, who was at the scene, the vehicle was found burned out with petrol.

Stoffberg explained: “The women are foreign nationals from Ghana who live in the country. “Apparently, the deceased wanted to start a business. She met with the other woman in Kleinvlei as they arranged that a local man would help them.

“He added more people, which led to the kidnapping, extortion, and robbery.

“They withdrew R30 000 from the deceased’s bank account. Both women were naked in the car, and they burned the car with petrol, but only one managed to survive the attack on their lives.

She had burn marks on her neck and back.

“The other woman succumbed to her injuries. With the information of the survivor, they managed to track down the suspects and arrest them.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk reported: “Atlantis police registered a murder, an attempted murder, and carjacking following an incident on Sunday, May 10, at about 11.44pm in John van Niekerk Street, Industrial area, Atlantis.

“According to reports, a 30-year-old female was found with burn wounds to her back and a stab wound in her neck near a factory at the mentioned address. She was found by a security guard who immediately informed police.

“Before she was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, she pointed out the crime scene to the police members, and another unidentified woman was found next to a burned-out vehicle. She was declared deceased by the medical personnel.”

Van Wyk confirmed that the matter is being investigated by the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime Investigation: Anti-Kidnapping Task Team, who made a breakthrough in the case and arrested seven suspects between the ages of 20 and 40 years.

They appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court for the first time last Thursday.
