The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has announced that all schools in the province will be closed on Tuesday, May 12.
This is due to more disruptive rainfall and flooding expected.
WCED head of education, Brent Walters, encouraged Early Childhood Development centres to follow in the interest of child safety.
He said all learner transport in the province will also be suspended.
"A second frontal system will impact the Western Cape, which will result in more disruptive rainfall and flooding in parts of the province into Tuesday, May 12.
"In the interests of learner and educator safety and after consultation with the Provincial Disaster Management Centre and South African Weather Service, the WCED has taken the decision to close all schools in the province.
"Schools must inform parents, caregivers and learner transport service providers of the closure immediately.
"All schools are scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, May 13.
"Principals across all districts are requested to report any storm-related damage on CEMIS immediately to enable timely support and intervention.
"It is recommended that all Early Childhood Development centres follow our lead in the interest of child safety.

"We appreciate the ongoing cooperation of all principals and will continue to work closely withschools to address any storm-related challenges."
Meanwhile, 128 schools were closed along the Garden Route and Karoo as severe weather battered parts of the province last week.
