Heavy rainfall, flooding, and snow have led to road closures across parts of South Africa, prompting authorities to warn motorists to exercise extreme caution.
In a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, the Road Traffic Management Corporation reported that adverse weather has severely impacted road conditions in the Eastern Cape and North West provinces."
The corporation said multiple roads remain closed across the Overberg, Garden Route and Central Karoo regions due to flooding. However, the Huisrivier Pass and the Prince Albert–Klaarstroom route have since reopened.
Authorities warned that severe weather conditions are expected to persist in the Garden Route and surrounding areas following heavy rain, strong winds and flooding.
Motorists have been urged not to attempt crossing flooded roads, as dangerous water levels and damaged infrastructure continue to pose risks.
The RTMC also called on road users to cooperate with officials, comply with road closure notices and obey all traffic laws.
“It is always better to arrive home late than not to arrive at all,” the corporation said.
