Mitchells Plain woman arrested for assaulting police during weekend crackdown on crime

A Mitchells Plain woman has been arrested for assaulting police officers.

It was a busy long weekend for the South African Police Service (SAPS), with multiple arrests made for various offences across the City.

Last week, as the weekend approached, a Mitchells Plain woman was arrested on multiple charges, including assaulting police officers.

A police statement explained: “Mitchells Plain SAPS members arrested a 29-year-old female following information received during their crime-combatting operation about drugs at a premises in Guava Street, Tafelsig. 

“They quickly followed up on this intelligence leading to the arrest of the aforesaid female suspect as they discovered a consignment of dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash at the premises.” 

The woman did not back down the statement added: “The female was arrested for attack on police, dealing in dagga and dagga products.

“She will make her first court appearance in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once charged.” 

Officers confiscated firearms from the streets of Cape Town over the weekend and arrested a medicine man in Bellville.

Police Sergeant Wesley Twigg explained: “The vigilance of members of Public Order Police led to the arrest of a Zimbabwean national for selling and handling of controlled and schedule medicine on Friday morning.

“The members were busy with crime prevention duties in the Bellville area when they noticed a transaction happening between the male and an unknown female. 

“They went to investigate and found 27 bottles of cough mixture and an undisclosed amount of cash in his possession. 

“The 44-year-old suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Monday on the mentioned charge.”
