Police did not let grass grow under their feet in capturing a suspect believed to be responsible for a deadly shooting in Heideveld on Sunday which killed one man and left three others wounded.
The shooting unfolded in Rosa Court at around 7:30pm, where a 33-year-old man was killed, while two women and another man were wounded.
Following the incident, Manenberg police launched a high-density patrol on Monday afternoon which led officers to a hotspot area where a 21-year-old suspect was arrested.
Manenberg SAPS station commander Brigadier Jayce Naidoo said: “[The arrest was made] in a proactive strike against gang-related violence, after [Sunday] night’s deadly shooting which saw a 33-year-old male brutally killed in a gang shooting in Rosa Court Heideveld.
“Manenberg Crime prevention unit - busy conducting stop and searches - successfully arrested a 21-year-old male as he tried to evade arrest when he saw SAPS members approaching.
“Our highly-skilled crime prevention team approached a suspicious person standing in Goudini Street, Heideveld.
“Following credible information they saw a suspect and they approached him, he tried hiding behind a parked car.
“SAPS members cornered him just as he pitched an illegal unlicensed firearm under the vehicle.”

According to sources, the suspect is a Junior Mafias gang member, and the incident is believed to have been a hit on a rival gangster.
Naidoo added that officers seized a .38 revolver loaded with six rounds, which has been sent for ballistic testing.
The suspect is facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once formally charged.
