Cape Town is set to host a major stand-up comedy showcase this month, as Laughter Is Culture brings 14 of South Africa’s top comedians together for a single night.
The event takes place on 18 April at the Grand Arena at GrandWest, with veteran comedian David Kau leading the line-up as host.
The bill includes Loyiso Gola, Mpho Popps, Celeste Ntuli and Skhumba Hlophe, alongside Trevor Gumbi and Chris Forrest.
They are joined by Kagiso KG Mogadi, Dillan Oliphant, Virgil Prins, Roni Modimola, Ntosh Madlingozi, Yaaseen Barnes and Mbali Gudazi, each established acts on the local circuit.
The showcase positions comedy as more than entertainment, reflecting everyday South African life through humour, from politics to personal experience.

“Comedy has always been a powerful way for South Africans to process life,” said Kau. “This event is about celebrating that on a massive scale.”
Ahead of the Cape Town show, a comedy skills workshop will be held on 14 April at Hotel Sky Sandton. The session will be led by industry figures including Kagiso Lediga, Tumi Morake, Sindiswa Mnguni and Mark Banks, focusing on writing, performance and the business of comedy.
The workshop is aligned with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and is limited to 80 participants.
Doors open at 6pm, with the show starting at 7pm. Tickets are available via Webtickets from R250.
With a line-up of this scale, the event is expected to draw a large audience for a night centred on shared stories, sharp observations and distinctly South African humour.
